    Which woods do you use?

    The main Native Scottish hardwoods we use are :- Oak, Pippy Oak, Brown/Tiger Oak, Elm and Burr Elm, Cherry, Ash, Spalted Beach, Yew and Sycamore. All timbers are hand selected at Scottish sawmills. Other woods are negotiable subject to availability and suitability.

    What finishes do you use?

    Many types of finish are offered and depend on the item and its purpose. Choices available include oil, wax, pre-cat sealers, and varnish.

    Do you use other materials?

    Yes. We particularly enjoy incorporating stone, glass and resin into my furniture designs. Other materials may be incorporated to your requirements.

    Can we have design input?

    Yes. It is imperative the client conveys their asperations in relation to the completed commission.

    Do you work with interior designers and architects?

    Yes. All the time.

    Do you make built-in furniture and structural fixtures such as staircases?

    Yes. Items can be designed custom built to suit your individual situation. Please refer to the our website and facebook page for examples of past commissions.

    Can you restore antique furniture?

    Yes we can restore old furniture for use in homes and commercial premises or for decorative purposes. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

    Can you modify existing furniture?

    Usually yes! This typically might involve reducing the size of a cabinet or extending a table. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

    How do we go about commissioning a piece of furniture?

    By Letter, Call, email, or facebook message us with your requirements, and we will put together a proposal for you including a drawing if appropriate. We will specify materials and construction methods and finish used. You can then decide whether to proceed, at which point a deposit or full payment (export customers) will be requested. It is often the case that a number of emails and/or phone calls are required to arrive at a joint understanding of what is required prior to sign-off on the design.

    Do you do work on properties?

    Yes, we can carry out many different tasks including :- office units, summer houses, new builds, extensions, renovations, refurbishments, loft conversions, etc

    Do you fit plastic windows, doors, fascias and soffits?

    Yes, we can also supply and fit any of these, including finishing internal ingoes and sills in plastic if required.

    Do you make bespoke kitchens and fit 'off the shelf' kitchens?

    Both! We can build you a custom made bespoke kitchen and fit, or fit the ‘off the shelf’ kitchen for you .

    Do you fit internal joinery, skirting and doors?

    Yes, run and mould bespoke finishings as required.

    Do you make wooden windows and doors?

    Yes, all designed and individually made to suit your specific requirements, make sash and casement windows and do heritage work.

  • Payment & Delivery

    Are you insured?

    We have full insurance, including public liability for work carried out onsite.

    What forms of payment do you take?

    We take all forms of payment including cash, UK cheques, and BACs payments.

    Do you require a deposit?

    Yes. Because the items we make are made to your individual requirements and may be difficult or impossible to re-sell to others, we need to ask for a non-refundable deposit. This is normally 50% for small items or 25% with stage payments for larger projects.

    How do you deliver?

    We deliver personally within Orkney Mainland, where possible.

    Do you export?

    Yes, we do, but we require full payment in advance for export orders.

    What is the timescale to make from placing an order?

    Timescales can vary from how many orders we currently have waiting, to the size and complexity of your own desired commission. Typically we say to allow between 8 to 12 weeks, however if your chosen item is from our stock it might be available immediately. We also try to accommodate customers when an item is for a special event.

    How much do stretch ceilings costs and how fast can you deliver?

    Prices start from as little as £75 exc vat per m2 and cost includes installation on mainland Orkney. 

    After receiving your order, delivery takes about 2 to 3 weeks.
